Sessions run on private desert tracks; we do not take dirt bikes onto the standard tourist dune routes.

Who should book a dirt bike session

Dirt biking suits riders who can already balance a bicycle and follow technical instructions, motorbike riders looking for sand-specific practice, and adventure travellers who want a real skill rather than a guided photo ride. It is not the right activity for first-time motorbike riders - the quad bike is the friendlier entry. Children are generally adults-only; younger experienced riders may join with prior approval.

Beginner format vs experienced format

The beginner format starts with a flat-sand handling loop and progresses to a gentle marked trail under direct instructor supervision. Pace is matched to the slowest rider; we do not push graduates of the loop onto routes they cannot handle. The experienced format opens up the longer trails, larger climbs, and longer descents. We screen for experience honestly on the day - if your skill does not match the format you booked, we will downgrade you to the beginner route, no charge change.

Guided route or practice / training

Guided routes follow a fixed trail with instructor support and stops. Repeat clients usually mix both: a training morning, then a longer guided trail in the afternoon.

Dirt biking burns more energy than guests expect. Plan for the session to be your only activity that day. Hydrate before, not just after. If you have lower-back issues, recent surgery, or significant joint problems, this is not the right activity - the quad bike or buggy is gentler. We will tell you on the phone before booking if the activity is not a fit; we would rather lose the booking than run an unsafe session.

Safety gear and bike condition

Helmet, goggles, knee and elbow pads are mandatory and provided. Long trousers and closed boots are required - regular trainers are not acceptable for dirt biking. Bikes are inspected before each session: tyre condition, brake feel, fluid levels, chain tension. Falls are part of dirt biking - the gear is what makes minor falls minor.

What to wear and bring

Long trousers, long sleeves, closed boots that cover the ankle (we can advise on rentals if you do not own boots), a buff or bandana for sand, and a small bag for water and phone. Leave loose jewellery and watches at the hotel. Bring spare cash for tips if your instructor goes above and beyond.

October to April is the comfortable window. Summer sessions run early morning only - heat plus heavy gear is not safe past 10 AM in July or August. Sandstorm days are rescheduled. Rain (rare) cancels - wet sand changes the bike behaviour entirely.

Dirt bike vs quad bike vs dune buggy

The dirt bike is the most physical and skill-dependent of the three. The quad bike is the next step down: easier to learn, less fall risk, more accessible. The buggy is more enclosed and faster but does not give the same feel of riding. Honest answer: if you cannot ride a manual-clutch motorbike confidently on tarmac, start with the quad. Dirt is for committed riders.
